I was very afraid to do this one. I love the original so much. But as they say in fiction writing class, "Write what you know" and "Murder your darlings".
I put myself into the shoes of a wallflower boy who was maybe the girl's high school friend.
I realised very quickly that I was writing about myself. With the help of some old friends i finished in no time. It may not be as deep as Ms Ian's version. But then again what boy is as deep as a girl is when we're 17?

A sheltered boy ..didn't know what I didn't know

I never knew enough but knew too much
I never played the team but I always showed up

They never payed no mind to what I do
To be heard and understood is what longed for
It's no wonder that I chose a life of song
all i wanted was to simply fly away
So I practiced hard and neglected all my grades
